Sad Goodbyes and Getting Ready

Last couple of days have been quite hectic. Not only we had to sell our furniture, pack out stuff and clear our desks but we also had to say goodbye to our friends, which turned out to be more difficult than I had anticipated.

At work we organized a trip to the famous Taco Trucks, according to Mark THE best tacos in New Haven, and I have to agree the Tacos de Lengua were pretty good. There I receive what will go down in history as the coolest and most original gift I have ever received. I'll explain: one of the paintings I restored (Self-portrait by George Chinnery) was wax-lined, meaning that a new canvas was adhered to the back of the painting with wax to provide a new support. This new support was no longer doing its job so we removed it and replaced it. The stiff, waxy fabric that was removed spent months rolling around the Conservation Studio, from cart to cart, waiting for us to decide what to do with it. Eventually it was put in a drawer until...
The day of the Taco Trucks Mark handed my a brown paper bag that read "Dear Alejandra, Thanks for fixing me. Sincerely, George Chinnery" and inside:

The painting's old wax lining made into a lap top case!!!!!! Complimented with studs and leopard-print lining of course. Awesome!

Our weekend included a trip to New York to welcome my friend D. Garibay to the City and to say goodbye to Hannes, Anya, Carmina and Cone... sad, sad.

We came back home Saturday at midnight only to find that Sebas' bike had been stolen - not unusual in New Haven - but funny thing is that the street sign the bike was locked to was also taken! The police might be on the look out for a person riding a green bicycle with a pole attached...

                                                                            BYE-BYE

xx Alejandra
